Stress Management Techniques for the Stressed-Out Woman

Few would argue the point that stress is a part of life. Most women have too many commitments, too many chores, and too little time to accomplish everything. Life is busy and life is hectic – but life does not have to be so stressful. In fact, too much stress over the long term can actually be harmful to one’s health.

Stress can place undue wear and tear on a woman’s body, until she is unable to fight infections and illnesses effectively. It can lead to anxiety, ulcers and even heart attacks. Because chronic stress can be so physically damaging, it is important to get a handle on it through stress management for women.

Steps to Stress Management for Women

The first step to effective stress management for a woman is the ability to say no to requests. Unfortunately, this is not as easy as it sounds for most. Women tend to shoulder the burdens of the family and home as well as career and volunteer projects. It can be difficult to admit that you can’t handle another responsibility.

The fact is that the hours in a day are finite. It is impossible to find the time to fill every request that is received. Begin by limiting the number of groups that you have volunteered to be a part of. Cut back on phone calls and trim back your social calendar. Use your free time to spend with your family first and foremost. There will always be time for volunteer work, but your children will only be young once.

Make Time for the Important People in your Life

Once you have created time in your schedule by limiting extracurricular activities, use that time for the people that mean the most to you. Your family will benefit greatly by spending plenty of quality time together. Whether you plan a family movie night, a camping trip or sit down with a jigsaw puzzle, the special moments with your kids and spouse are the ones that will mean the most in the long run.

It is also important for a woman, as a part of your stress management plan, to spend time alone with your spouse. Find a babysitter that you trust, and spend an evening alone having dinner, going dancing, or watching a movie. Even a walk in the park or a drive through the mountains can be couple time that will enhance your relationship and lower your stress level.

It is true that life is stressful, especially for women. With a good stress management program, you can reduce the stress and tension in your life, and enjoy a higher quality of living.
